Are the London members OK?

Just heard about these blasts.
Even if they were since years predictable, it is terrible.

Dev was here last evening and was planning to fly back this evening so he is ok.

Theres loads of groups claiming responsibilty, saying it 'maybe' a certain group at this stage seems pointless to me
It seems pointless naming any individual group a name the press should not give these loathful creatures the satisfaction of the infamy they desire. Simply refer to all of them simply as terrorists and nothing more.

I think the Al Qaeda possibility is a likely one... look at the similarities to the Madrid bombings - Multiple bombs that were (nearly) synchronised during busy times, and timed to coincide with a major political event in the country (general election in spain, G8 summit here).

Un-confirmed, just read on another forum posted by a member in london, police have shot someone near canary wharf?
I'm in Canary Wharf and haven't heard anything about any shooting.

I'm on my monthly visit to the London office...I was on the Jubilee Line this morning and around 9:20am we were all turfed out of, first, the train and then, the station @ Canada Water. Walked the rest of the way but had no idea what had happend - we'd only been told about "power surges" on the lines.

Flying back to Lisbon tomorrow - Heathrow bound to be a bundle of laughs tomorrow

Michael.

I agree, rsand, the media are culpable in giving such massive publicity to this sort of thing.

First of all they give people ideas,
secondly they tell them what and how to do it,
thirdly the terrorists get the satisfaction of seeing the whole world caught up in the hysteria which largely the media cause, too.

they manufacture an event into a terror, and I am sure they actually live for events like this.

I am putting my head in the sand and ignoring the hype.

it was the same with Bigley, I am sure the terrorists got huge satisfaction from the coverage.

it seems suicide bombings have become a trendy leisure activity rather than total utter desparation and anger with injustice, which I can half comprehend. What have innocent people got to do with fanatical greivances? attck the bloody politicians you dicks. half the dead people, and there will be tens if not hundreds, may well have been against the war.

Either way, if it IS al queda, they're doing Islam no favours, even though I agree with them about the UK/US and Iraq. Taking it out on innocent civilians who never got a choice on whether we should go to war is pretty bloody weak if you ask me.

At least the suicide bombers will now find out if their god is merciful - as I said on Naim's site, hope they packed asbestos underpants.

My cousin works for London Fire Brigade - it's bedlum according to her - total chaos.

Thankfully, all the people I know who work/live in London are OK, but I've got a horrible feeling this situation is going to get worse before it gets better...

I to live and work in London where we have had terror bombings on the streets from the mid 1970s through to today and will I expect have them for a good few years more. Judging from interviews given by Sir Ian Blair (head of Met police and man in charge) things are going well and all services are functioning as expected, he spoke rather well and tried to keep things calm alas some of the press tend to get a bit excited and ihmo try a bit too hard to chase ratings and stay too long in the limelight at a time like this.

Yes thanks I'm fine. Thanks for your concern.

I actually was on the tube waiting for a train when the whole thing happened. All of a sudden the lights all went very dim for a few seconds. Everyone looked around quizically as it was a very odd thing to happen. Been using the tube for nearly 30 years and thats a first. Anyway, there were already delays and so I couldn't get on any of the trains. Then they announced the line was suspended then a few minutes later that the whole system was suspended. The only thing they knew at the time was that there had been a power surge which had knocked out all the computers in the control centre. Strangely enough they were telling people that they were expecting another one which is why they were closing the system for saftey reasons.

Good thing I was running late today, because my journey takes me through one of the stations that there was an incident on. So I could very well have been on one of those trains if I had been on time for work.

Sorry to all those involved, I remember the bomb at Manchester and how affected us around here. Manchester is now a strong and vibrant city thats never been in better shape. Its this ability to not only recover from these disgusting events but to actually prosper is the only way to show this isnt the answer.

IMO a suicide bomber is victim too. Whilst I only have disgust for that person I dont think we can understand how someone could be so angry, so aggrieved and so desperate as to do something like this. These people are often vunerable and are groomed to carry out such tasks. The real bastards in this are those that plan these actions, the commanders that often lead a comfortable life and are far from the 'front line'.

The real sadness in the whole scheme of things will be the 'eye for an eye' that'll no doubt be a result of this. No doubt plenty will be screaming to hit 'em back hard, just not the answer IMO.

For me the G8 summit sums up the problems we face, a few people holding so much power, whilst its the innocent people who have to suffer. Im angry about this but my anger isnt just towards those who carried it out but towards Mr Bush and his sheep too.

I must also say that from what Ive seen the emergency services are doing an excellent job, they take alot of crap but we'd be lost without 'em.

Latest news is 33 dead and that doesn't include those on the bus that was ripped apart so the toll is certain to rise.

The more I think about it, it was something that was bound to happen sooner or later - I think a lot of us expected it following 9/11, it's just a surprise that it's taken so long.

I'm not even sure it's preventable - if someone wants to carry a bag/box onto a bus and blow themselves and everyone else up then there's not a great deal you can do about it. Whether you can prevent it at the source i.e. address the terrorist's grievencies is another matter.

Matt.

Matt, there was never a doubt this would happen and I think our services have probably done an immense job preveting something so far.

Whilst Bush is around this wont be sorted, Im sorry but the guy just makes me feel ill. He does what he wants, how he wants and sticks two fingers up to anyone who doesnt like it. G8? Its G7 + Bush.

Just got back in after a trip around the M25 today, from milton keynes to sheerness.

There are signs all over the M25 saying ''DO NOT ENTER LONDON".

If anyone is planning to drive around the M25 tonight, or in fact th M3, M2, or any road that links to London directly, I would strongly advise against it. I was 6 hours + doing a 3 hour journey.

I know all our thoughts go to the families of people effected.

Cheers
Chris

My thoughts with all those effected, and hoping all members are ok.

I've managed to get hold of most people who I know in the London area. When first trying to phone through this morning, the lines were dead. What a horrible feeling!

Hope all here are ok.

On the contrary, Dom, this is the nature of terror, to hit defenceless targets and cause fear and panic, the ideal being to create so much that the politicians are pressured into doing something to make it stop. It could be said to have been successful in Madrid, where it probably changed the Spanish general election result.

I'm surprised that it took so long to hit Bush's No.1 ally. I'm also relieved to see that the death toll was so small - no comfort to those who have lost friends and family, of course, but it could have been so much worse (Madrid).
