That means you don't doesn't it ;)

So what do you and your guests listen for, and have any of them ditched their gear for AV?

Technicaly it does, but my brother is the president of a multinational, not an audiophile, so he doesnt count... ;)

We hear different stuff, very good recordings, for instance:

Rabih Abou-Khalil
Keith Jarret
Miles Davis
A very interesting DVD, Swinging Bach with for instance Bobby McFerrin
Unknown Bach, Organ works
Several Brasilian classical music composers
Piano works from Sibelius
Operas, for instance Ariodante
Africa Sanctus
Eric Clapton
etc...

You see there is the important difference.

We listen to really bad recordings of really great music. A good system allows that.

Do you see what I mean?

The important word was "pretend" there, and I personally think once you move on from being obsessed by audiophilia, you will start to enjoy the music far more.

Your seeking approval from your peers suggests that when listening, you are concentrating on something other than the artist's intentions. This has to be counterproductive.

This guy was obviously impressed with your set up, describing it as THE BEST av setup he had heard! Well done. Did he compare it to a music system at all

All your questions are loaded... :(

You didnt give a damn what music do I play for my friends, just wanted more ammunition to launch your ridicule attacks...

If you read your own posts, they all apply to your audiophobia, not anyone elses, you do need help, unfortunately I am not qualified to offer it, so I will refrain from answering your pathetic posts from now on...

Hoorah - does that mean the squabbles are over then?

Honestly, it was like watching TV interior designers Colin and Justin arguing over the size of their pelmets!

Matt.

Only funnier, at times :D

And after all this, I'd still like to know.... are these bel Canto Digital amps any good? I have just got a player with onboard volume control, so wondering about feeding it direct to a power amp.

Alan,

They are very clean, very detailed, very powerful.

They are also very revealing, and the point I dont like about them is when you put a bad recording on, they do nothing to make it sound better. They are like Ronseal - ''they do what it says on the tin''.

A great choice for people who need powerful amplifiers, especially if they have a warm source, or dont mind revealing amplifiers.

Get it wrong with the ancillaries, and its too much of a good thing.

They sound very good when bridged, and also when fed straight from a CDP with a built in volume control.

So in summary powerful, but very revealing.
Thats what I think anyway.
Chris.

Revealing yes, but I find that they make many bad recordings acceptable because they never sound harsh...

Hi Antonio - I suppose it depends on your sphere of reference.

If Alan is used to euphony of class A solid state or valves he might find them too revealing...

If he's used to solid state power then less likely I think.

You are probably right, the Bryston could be deadly with harsh recordings, the BC is more "forguiving"...

By the way, instead of repeating the guys comments as I did here, I asked him for a comment to post in a local audiophile forum, the translation is from Babel with a couple of adjustments, Michaelab please help if it is far off...

"Not all are contented with hearing the music - as Latin of sermon"

I'm used to a Lavardin IT which has solid state power without solid state hardness, but without valve softness. Think of the Lavardin as a bigger better Sugden A21 - although its not class A.

To be honest, not sure why I'd want to change it apart from fact I have only one source that is capable of driving a power amp direct.
