Slayer - God hates us all

Ideally would like to play louder, but as my neighbours are my landlords.....

Slayer's best album to date by far. Definatley an aquired taste!

The Bravery, The Bravery - I haven't had it out of my CD player since it came out on Monday. This really one of them albums that really grows you on, at first I thought it was good but nothing special, I then listened it a few times I am now hooked.

I am seeing them live again in May.

I've got Lamb's 1st album as well..
If you like them you should check out the Telepopmusik and Rinocerose - slightly less ambient overall, but cracking despite being a bit French ;)

Thanks for the tips. I've listened to a few samples of Rinocerose (i've heard a bit of Telepopmusik before), and some of it sounds quite interesting, but a bit MOre house than I'm really into. Maybe just the samples I chose? Any specific recommendations?

Not too similar, but another female vocal and beats fav of mine is Ruby. As far as I know she only ever did the one album Salt Peter. Well worth checking out IMO. I know Dom's a big fan too. Nice and gritty... if that makes sense.

Slayer are class. :MILD: Have you heard Early Man? Similar kind of afair. Riffage and such.

Visited their website & had a quck listen to the offerings, not bad! have heard heard it all before though :D Sounds similar to Slayer's early stuff. I do tend to feel IMO that Slayer are way out in front of this genre and are one of the few bands, of any musical genre, that seem to improve as time goes on.

It's defintiely worth checking Rinocerose's "Music Kills Me".. Not particularly house-y, they've got guitars and everything, more BigBeat. Telepopmusik's "Genetic World" is also worth a punt for that bigbeat groove-with-guitars, as is either of the Low Fidelity Allstars albums, "How to operate with a blown mind" and "Don't be afraid of love", though they do veer to some serious funk, wot with having Bootsy on board for the 2nd one!

Last night:

XTC - English Settlement

Beatles - Revolver

Kraftwerk - Transeurope Express

Gene Clark - Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers

Gram Parsons - GP

Emmylou Harris - Profile

Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun. Seems to be a few people here who have mentioned this in the past. A good friend of mine, who first played me this rates it as his all time fav. I'd put it up there somewhere too. At times truly beautiful. Everyone should hear this at least once.

Tricky - Maxinquaye. Heard a bit of "Brand new you're retro" earlier, so put this on. Still a standard setter IMO.

Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher. Another of Warp Records finest. If only all hip hop was this good! Broken intelligent beats, crazy electro beeps. Some instrumental, some with clever and witty vocals and samples. One to get the head nodding.

Aesop Rock - Compilation. Anyone who is open to trying something new, especially those who already like hip hop, should hear his stuff. The guys delivery and content is amazing. Don't dismiss "rap" without giving this a try.

From Mars - 23. Their debut album, taking its name from the fact that it was recorded, mastered and released to listeners ears within 23 hours. I tend to find MOst recent "rock" music tedious and bland, often prefering bands to keep their guitars acoustic, or easy on the distortion pedal at least. There's a few exceptions. Seen these live countless times, and will be doing so tomorow (well I guess it's *tonight* now). They're doing a 23 date tour (the album was also recorded on the 23rd, starting at 2300 hrs) and I strongly recommend catching them if you fancy checking out a great live band. Tour dates, and loads of downloads available on their website www.frommars.tk
You heard it here first ;)

Currently digging out my LP collection and found a car boot sale classic, John Denvor peoms promises and prayers. Its actually pretty a good album for the 50p I paid for it.

Better than my Ultravox Viena album anyway.

Somewhere between Hippie stardom and introspective 70's singer songwriter generation

If you like this surrogat type of country pop, then seek out Gram Parsons phenomenal solo albums and, previous to that, his work with the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. Acts like Denver and the Eagles wouldn't have exist, nor got loaded, without him.
