I had a listen to that the other day after seeing (was it you?) mention it on here.

I thought it was interesting but not my thing. Kinda nice and relaxing but the vocals, although talented, were too over the top I think. Definitely reminds me of Nina Simone. I can see that to someone who listens mainly to lyrics it might be of more interest.

Possibly me. I mentioned it on this thread earlier.

I've not had a chance to listen to the album again yet, but have heard "Hope there's someone" a couple MOre times now. A very intense tune. The vocal layering and piano are a bit good.

From the breif listen I've had of the album, there's a few other tracks that stand out like this too, but will need to give it a few MOre listens before judging it as a complete album.

I heard someone mention they've not heard a voice as capable of "MOving" them since Jeff Buckley.

I think its special. Not every track, but the best tracks are sublime IMO. When I first heard "I hope there's someone" on 6music whilst at work I didnt really pay much attention but slowly realised it was moving me emotionally without evening listening. Having then concentrated I was really taken.

I assumed Antony was a heavyweight african american blues singer judging by that track. I did a little research and was surprised to find Antony is a white transexual New Yorker. I bought the album and felt compelled to see them at QEH for their single UK tour date, but was totally sold out (apparently much to the surprise of QEH) turns out they have a substantial following around the world.

Fortunately they are doing more UK dates due to demand in June. Lou Reed commented he was moved to tears seeing them live.

Today it's Ozrics - Strangeitude/Pungent Effulgent (awesome! I can feel that sub-bass vibrating my liver..)
And Rick James (RIP) - Fire it up..
And Funkadelic - Electric Spanking of war babies and Uncle Jam wants you to funk with him...

Later I'll no doubt be drawn into the freakitude of Bootsy's Rubber Band - with Aah the name is Bootsy Baby and This Boot was Made for Funkin..
Deep joy.

John Mayalls Bluesbreakers - Best of
Albert Collins - The Iceman Cometh
Albert Collins and Robert Cray - Showdown

And to get that blues thang out of my head:
