I do love Zappa, and I'm always up for anything a bit off the beaten track, as it were. I think Joe's Garage is just a very, very tongue-in-cheek experience, and all the better for it. You've got to love Frank as the 'Central Scrutinizer'!! and Watermelon in Easter Hay is one of the most sublime things I've come across in Zappa's catalogue...and Little Green Rosetta is one of the best album ending tracks ever.

In short, weird is good! :)

yes Little Green Rosetta makes me laugh every time i listen to it. Thinking about it i haven't to Joe's Garage for ages will have to spin it up.

Weird jazz day:

Ronald Shannon Jackson - Man dance (definitely odd)
Sonny Sharrock (RIP..) - Live in New York (proper feedback squealing rock-jazz [or is that jazz-rock :D] with 2 drum kits)
James Blood Ulmer - Tales from Captain Black (very odd)
James Blood and George Adams - Phalanx (not that weird, in fact quite funky)

And for some light relief:

AC/DC - For those about to rock

Ipod on tube this morning: In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
this eve: Retropolis - Flower Kings

CD at home: U2 Rattle & Hum; Beth Orton - Trailer Park

As I type: White Lines - Grand Master Flash (must be one of my favourite tracks ever!)

Led Zeppelin Remasters,

For all those who do not own any Led Zepplin this is a must especially the first cd.

Dido - Life for Rent / No Angel

Really enjoyed her first album, 'No Angel', but it's taken a while to get into 'Life for Rent'. Been playing it tonight and it's really started to grow on me. Only had it about two years!

I've spent the day dog sitting and working on aplication forms, so quite a few albums have been through the system today.

Nick Drake - Fives Leaves Left
Lou Reed - Perfect Day
Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain (25th Anniversary edition)
Neil Young - After The Goldrush
Four Tet - Rounds/Pause
Youngblood brass band - center:level:roar. (www.youngbloodbrassband.com). American nine piece. Funky/jazzy/bluesy/experimental hip hop. Excellent live! This album features 8 of the members, playing a wide range of horns and percussion, (sousaphone, trombone, euphonium, tuba, snares, bass drums, cymbols, various saxaphones and trumpets, berimbau, gourd, congas, cowbells, tambourines, water jugs, wood shells, surdo, pandeiro, and bamboo staves), some of which I've never heard of before, but da,m it sounds good! Well worth checking out!

And a couple of local/friends bands...

From Mars - 23 (www.from-mars.co.uk). 3 Piece punky/pop group. Tight as **** and excellent live. I've mentioned this before. The album (www.23hours.info) is going in the Guinness book of records. From first going into the studio (2300hrs on the 23rd) to having the finished product available to buy, it was meant to take 23hours, but went over by 23minutes. Still managed to stick to objective 2 however, which was to have the launch party 24hours after first going into the studio.

Snork Maiden - We Sell Milk (www.snorkmaiden.co.uk). Experimental, electronic/random/punk/beeps and bleeps. Very diverse with their fingers in many musical pies. 3 Piece who are also excellent live. "Instruments" used on this album include everything from synth's to crisp packets and gameboys.

Next up.... Sigur Ros - ( )

Found in a sale in Musik Hug, Zürich station. One of the great jazz albums. I've owned the vinyl for many years, so I jumped at the chance to get the CD (with extra tracks). Wonderful stuff.

currently: red snapper - our aim is to satisfy
previously: goldfrapp - supernature
before that: goldfrapp - supernature (so good i played it twice)

On the iPod:

Carly Simon - Greatest Hits Live
James Taylor - Live
Kim Carnes - The Divine
Tracey Chapman - Tracey Chapman
Cyndi Lauper - 12 Deadly Sins

Kanye West - College Dropout...pretty good hiphop album...more fun and inventive than most 'pop' hiphop. Will get the latest album soon.

Dark Side Of The Moon after reading Michaels post about Time on the Chat board.
Such a great album although its really ruined for me by those damn clocks going off just as you're getting into it....and whats going on with the track listings...all seems out order!?
