Roni Size (again) but this time In The MOde! Where as Touching Down is mixed togeather, this is seperate tracks. And very good it is too! A nice background album for the garden fence painting i'm about to start
Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart - 'Take Me To God' A fantastic album and one that I've not played in ages, plus it's a lovely sounding bit of vinyl, too.
This has now become my 'blind' music purchase for April - only £8.99 from Play.com. I'm looking forward to hearing it. Chris.
Good, my April Resolution has a first taker... Not their best album, but still good. There's a great singalong chorus on one of the new songs: "Bring back hanging Bring back hanging Bring back hanging... around". There's a decent compilation (That's Just the Way Things Are, Joe). Best albums are Saint Jack and Fried For Blue Material, both of which are great in every respect. The Nectarines are fronted by Davey Henderson (ex-The Fire Engines and Win). Gareth Sager (ex-The Pop Group) has been the bass player for the past couple of years. Think Captain Beefheart meets Orange Juice meets Sun Ra meets The Velvet Underground meets Prince meets the Fall for some idea of what they sound like. Let me know what you think of it when you hear it, and go and see them live if you get a chance, I've seen them about half a dozen times in the last 10 years and they've always been fantastic. Last night they opened with a brilliant version of Outkast's "Hey Ya". They've also been known to do a mean version of Sun Ra's "Rocket #9". I don't know why they aren't better-known, the records always get good reviews in all the right places, and The Fire Engines are still cult favourites with indie kids hitting 40. -- Ian
It's a beauty, for sure. The only problem I really have with it is that whenever I get to the "...Velvet Underground meets Prince..." bit, I get this mental image of Nico and the poison dwarve that isn't, shall we say, very pleasant. Nuff said, I think.
Well I never knew that! I've got Saint Jack and its a really good album, and I am obviously a Fire Engines fan (how can one not be), the Lubricate Your Living Room LP is a true early 80s classic. I just never realised there was a connection. Tony.
