I'll root for the Greeks. Massively underrated IMHO.
If they win, do I get a commemorative bowl?

Joel, certainly, watching England in major tournaments is just like watching Sysiphus rolling that rock.

I believe it was when two of the chief protganists bowed out without providing any reasonable arguement as to why we should take their opinion seriously AK ;)

    Absolutely!

Out of interest, at what frequency do those ART bass cabs crossover?

Merlin at your request from the art website,

    Drive Units Frequency Response

    200mm bass drive unit : 28Hz-100Hz - 3dB
    165mm bass-mid-range unit : 100Hz-2kHz ± 2dB
    28mm hi-hat tweeter system : 2kHz-20kHz ± 2dB

    Overall sensitivity : 89dB/2.84V@1metre

I think theres something funny with how they x over, when used on their own the monitors go down lower, than 100Hz, they are single wired (i use my jpslabs shottgunned) the speaker caable attaches to binding posts on base unit, and there are two flying leads attached that connect to the posts on the satelite, believe these come from crossover as flagship impression has 2 pair of these flying leads, (AS currently have a pair of these in mk1 version for £8.5k) one day might try running them unconnected but that means my amp would see them as 4ohm i believe(?)

    Thanks AK,

How would you describe the differences in presentation between your setup and Bub's now that you have listeed them both?

I also hear that the ART's are an aquired taste. Any idea what people mean by that as I have never heard a pair.

The differences well bubs has louder bass, (hard to sya exactly as swap rooms and theyd be all wrong) His midrange is not as forward as mine, and mine does the soundstage thing, and mines much more airy, Mies like "Sky" his is like "Motorhead". Oh and mines lower down kinda like at earlevel mid bubs are at ear level, Robert Ludlows earlevel that is!

Never heard they were an aquired taste, loved em right away, pretty neutral, tons of texture and detail, very fast and no bloom or overhang, smooth treble, A bit like shearwaters in that those that have them hang onto them or upgrade to other ART speakers, some day if you are in my neck of the woods you can come over and see for yourself.

Ps I'm not that good at the review thing I just knows what I likes.

    Thanks AK,

So I take it the ATC's are more propulsive than the ARTs. More dense in the lower octaves with less mid prominence?

Patience amigo, we are building up to it i feel ;)

Wouldn't quite agree their merlin, remember atcs are shite it's tha mana thats more propulsive:)

No I would say we are comparing apples with oranges, Arts are 3 way hifi ttransducer with 8" bass driver, ATC's that bub has are flat response studio moitors with 12"bass driver, and in Bubs setup that driver is right at ear level, mien are fast and propulsive and a lot more refined, bags of grunt though, oh and bub uses naim stuff whereas I use High fidelity, high resoultion sophisticated amplification, Bubs got the ferarri, Ive got the Aston martin. If ye know what I mean

PS I've a sneaky feeling I know where you may be going with this, and i maybe the worm on the end of the hook, after saturday Dunc will be able to give you a more balanced view as he has heard both and currently lives with more domestically appropriate ATC's

I know a Ferrari would put a grin on my face everytime I fired it up ;)

I suspect the new Astons would appeal to the more mature millionaire though, do the same thing in a more relaxed and less dramatic fashion.

yeah but ferrari for the weekend You'd take the aston everyday, I'm not very good at this subjective shite,BTW so I may be talking bollox, as I said wait till saturday and see what bub and Dunc think.

FWIW in comparison to the Arts, i've found bass in proacs, a little lumpy and kinda hanging in middle between speakers, bass seems slow and ponderous, never heeard the D100's but felt the same from studio 125 response 3.8 and new d25, the only proacs i've heard that weren't lumpy were the tablette 8 sigs and the future 2's which were shite IMHO, very thin and lacking, and honestly could not see where the money went.

Merlin WM summed up the sound of my system more succintly in one of these threads, something about punchy musical in a powerfull unforced way or something like that, and he says he don't read mags, with prose like that he should be writing them
