thoughts and views on PMC OB1's

I've heard them twice a Bristol and once in a dealer, and liked them every time.
Still, maybe it was just the rooms in question. Just another example of different preferences...
 
Appears Robbie Williams is a fan too.

What with both Robbie and Brian liking them, can't imagine why they aren't my favourite speakers...

The ability for PMCs to "time" seems to bring about polarised opinions. A few magazine reviewers mention that this is one area they do reasonably well at. The only dissenting one I've seen myself was Alvin Gold in HFN. Then again, he's partial to Krell/JM Labs.

I never had a problem with it at the dealers, for all of the consumer range of PMC products (db1 -> ob1) although some people mention that the newer ones (gb1, ob1 and PLUS series) do bass better due to newer foam lining in the TL cavity.

When I heard my FB1s, I thought they timed well at the dealers. I brought it home and it was an absolute shocker regardless of positioning. Then after about 90 days, they seemed to settle down and are now doing quite well.

Maybe put it down to preferences as well as burn-in?
 
I don't think I'm a fan of transmission lines. At least PMC play real music at shows; play real music on any number of show speakers and they'll sound worse than the PMCs.
 
I heard some ob1's with the new naim kit and was blown away. Bought them, Got them home and plugged into my 102/hi 250 and they sounded crap. Bought some Bryston amps and they were transformed. Sold the naim and my isobariks. I have not regretted the change one bit. They have never produced 'flabby' bass and imho the midrange is excellent. I have been through kans, kabers, isobariks and had SBL's at home. For me and swmbo they are the best speakers I have owned. However, I fully accept that they are not everyones cup of tea. For example, I have never heard a naim speaker that I could live with and yet there are many who would disagree.

Every time I check this thread it makes me want to go and listen to my lovely PMC speakers :) What a nice thread! bai bai now!
 
i also had the pleasure of hearing the OB1's in demo with tag McLaren amplification (was the closest thing the shop had to my Audiolabs) and i was quite impressed. certainly a lot of potential there with a bit of cabling and placement experimentation.
 
Ive only heard the FB1's and I quite liked them (in the scenario they were playing in - MF amp and Meridian CDP).

I'd like the chance of hearing their bigger active studio monitors. Unfortunately easier said than done - especially when its curiousity and not a genuine wish to buy.

They are relatively small.

It depends on what you are used to.
