Turntables...

Thanks, chaps. The news hasn't gone down quite as well among certain denizens at PFM, but you can't please everybody.

The SME is sublime, and I'm very pleased. Looks good, too, which is a bonus.

Can you please give us a blow by blow account as you try records of different genres compared with your LP12?

The SME played "Made in Japan" by Deep Purple in a very satisfying manner, last night.

If you are one of those people who thinks that the SME can't play anything but "classical", then

a) You don't know anything about "classical"
b) You don't know anything about the SME
c) You don't know anything about Hi-Fi, and
d) You don't know anything about music.

So why are you posting about how good it sounds on various HiFi fora, instead of listening to it?

Fervour of the newly converted. If only he knew what else is out there...
I didn't realise good audio was a competition, I thought it was a mutually respectful club...

Glad you like it Bub.

I know you've never been one to be swayed by public opinion, so I'm sure you won't mind the needling one iota.

Its also good to hear you haven't had any compatability problems with your cartridge. What a pain and unwanted expense that can be..

No competition - just stating that Bub has only just started to open himself to all the better kit out there. The sme was a good start.

I dem stuff at home too Bub. I just think shop demos have some value as opposed to none.

e) You havent heard other decks play rock even better.

The SME arm has virtually the same effective mass as the Ekos & Aro, and I'd heard of someone else using an Akiva with the SME, so I knew it would be OK.

BBV, do you ever find yourself tiresome?

Rarely if ever. Given what you have found with the sme and the complete reversal of your previous mantra - is it so hard to consider that your current conception could be demolished as easily as the one about the ninja?

I'm really not interested in anything you have to say about any aspect of hi-fi. The easiest thing in the world is to sit there and say "I've heard (got) better". No-one can contradict you, because it's considered to be a matter of opinion.

It's a complete waste of everybody's time.

I bought my two 4b-st from the USA and had them converted at Bryston - a transformer change - that is the only difference.

I was right that your ninja could be easily and comprehensively beaten... hats off to you for giving the sme a listen and making an open minded choice. I beleive you brought up the array of choices for the sme and rock - am I correct in saying that you have heard just two high end decks?
