Bake off in sunny Ilford anyone?

Dev's is a pretty high resolution system, maybe in his setup he would get better results with the silver version. Others may be satisfied with the copper I guess.

I doubt the silver version would be better. Silver is known to really screw up the PRaT and since that is exactly the area where the Django is challenged, well, draw your own conclusions.

Even my super duper bodged-up Naim couldn't save the day with not a single foot to be seen twitching.

Many thanks to Dev for feeding both our ears and mouths at the same time.

Interesting comments from everyone. For me, I enjoyed a great deal of new music, and Rob's modified CD5i seemed to get better and better as the day went on. Sadly it developed a very twisted form of auto selection process, allowing the playback of some of Ian's less socially acceptable selections, whilst refusing to play CDR's comprising rythmns, melodies, and of course female vocal.

Django? Well all I can do is apologise for not bringing over a decent active preamp for Dev and the rest of you to compare with it. I think for Dev, the absence of the groudbreaking performance of the Leak will lead to the aquisition of a fine active pre in the not too distant future.

So to sum up.

Great Samosa's,

Tasty Bagji's

Truly fragrant rice

Great Bass courtesy of Tannoy

Great Music (courtesy of Dev, Rob, Neil and Dean)

thanks for the day Dev. Really enjoyed listening - the Tannoys kick butt. I look forward to returning to hear the Westminsters.

Hmm I have the copper amorphous core but have a copper S&B on order. Did this django have the amorphous or the S&B core?

What is the glasshouse pre?

We havent heard a passion, but the glasshouse replaced a dact attenuator we built, and beats that in soundstage depth and tonal subtleties.Low frequencies are possibly a little softer but the glasshouse is still new and burning in nicely.

Strange; that doesn't tally with my experience at all.

Markus, at one pont Dev retrieved an old NAD 3020 from his attic and we popped that on (using just the pre out) and while it lacked the creamy mid texture and silk like sheen of the Django it brought some much needed pace and rhythm to the proceedings.

Yes, that was an impressive difference, and much preferred by everybody I think.

ndeed I agree with Markus. Was the tranformer well burnt in yet?

It's around a year old I believe, so I assume so.

What were the source and sink impedances feeding the django? Lengths of cable used?

Indeed I agree with Markus.

So you think our findings are different to Markus' experience then???

So you are saying that like any other passive, it's highly system dependent. That might well explain the differences between the Django and the Glasshouse, particularly as described by Chris.

Hi,

I would like to thank Dev for organising a fine afternoon. Some very tasty food was on offer and eaten by all.

It was good to meet up with everyone again (Dev, Neil, Ian, Michael) and it was good to meet Rob Holt for the first time. Shame BBV, Simon and big Tone couldn't make it.

A good selection of music was featured. The tunes that I played include,

Lee Hazelwood - Run boy run
The Tennors - Ride your Donkey
I Roy - Black man times
Television Personalities - Part Time Punks
Janie Jones - House of Juju Queen
Tommy Steele - Singing the blue
Louis Prima - Robin Hood
Jimmy Smith - Sunny
Jackie Wilson - You keep me hanging on
Jackie Wilson - For Once in my life

I agree with the others, Dev should get some bigger Tannoys. The Westminster would suit his place because he has the room. If not the westminsters, maybe some of the other many big Tannoy speakers. He has a good sounding system.

As for my Django. I have to apologise to everyone. I have never seem so many faces drop with disappointment. I wish a hole had opened up and swallowed me. When the Nad came out my worst fears were realised. The shame of it all.

My title as 'Hifi guru for the people' is now sadly over. I don't know if I'll ever show my face around hifi events ever again.

I am yet to hear a TVC that I like (S&B, Sowter DIY, Bent and Daniels DIYAudio). They always lack pace and feel as if the music is being played at 33 rather than 33 1/3.

And, although I have both a shunted and resistive ladder attenuators, I feel nothing beats an active pre.

Still all this mute as it sounds like you still had fun.

Ian, you know I wouldn't have walked out of Cline/Bendian, infact they are just about to release more Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff, can't wait.

More system dependent than an active. I understand high source impedance is detrimental. Thorsten could say more I am sure.
