G,
Please do tell me more, I've always found sacd, far less dynamic, which ever player it was, be it Accuphase dpv 85/DCS/sacd1/ the 9000 sony effort. (tweeked versions included)
WM,
Yes, I've mostly only compared the hybrid disc layers. On my player (Marantz SA-14), the SACD layer is more dynamic than Redbook. This is a 2 channel only player on Daruma isolation with anal/digital r-core PSU mods. It uses Crystal CS4397 192/24/DSD DACS.

I've heard a standard Accu DP-85, very nice too! I'm presently trying to get hold off a TEAC (Esoteric) X-01. Interestingly, both these m/cs convert the DSD to PCM.

Maybe they sound more dynamic if set up in 5 channel ie five identicla speakers and amps placed equidistant around room, but i can't help wondering what that same budget required for above setup, would sound like if applied to dedicated redbook playing system.

You have an obsession with penies, (and Mr P's arse), or what, always talking about budget and price, it costs more, we all know that, but it does movies too, so it is a two in one, better value if you want both... :p

If so then take what you have spent on yer system (at retail prices) and use that figure to go to dealers and get him to demo you a 2ch system for this budget, then you'll see whhat we mean.

FWIW I have a small Sony 5.1 channel setup cost £300 and is more than adequate for the amount of times I watch films TV.

How many films a week do you watch Anti ono, because unless it's lots, I don't see the point in having a mega-bucks AV set-up, much better to sink your money into a proper 2 channel system where there are fewer inherent compromises.

agreed, for one maybe 2 films a week a cheapo sub/sat thing is great, all you need the sub for is the loud bangs anyway (I bought the Mission FS2AV sub/sats and Teac Av550 gear, and its great and hardly that much-but play a cd and its dog muck)

You still dont get it, you need to go out a bit, the world didnt stop 30 years ago...

actually, the Godfather was made 30 years ago and nowt has bettered it since

I had 5k for AV and 5K for stereo Antonio, but i had to audition 10k AV systems on the wifes orders before i bought 7 speakers, but I just couldn't get comfortable at all with 2 channel sound in the 10kish AV systems.Just my own experience, fwiw

It's a case of points of reference Antonio ;)

Of course it is, for instance I grew up with a Steinway playing mainly Chopin, and listening to Callas LPs, my family's absolute star, also going a lot to the opera, my grandfather had a season berth in Lisbon's opera house, others have grown with rock concerts, or rave, or disco, or whatever...

No two systems sound the same, I heard very expensive systems that I hated, and cheap very reasonable ones...

None of us owns the absolute truth...

That makes it even harder to understand you settling for an AV system Antonio
