I see BN thought you meant it wasn't good, so what you meant that it wasn't good sf novel, but it was funny, i laughed all the way through.

FWIW there is the pure SF Asimov, AE Van Vogt , bradbury etc, sometimes though these can be a bit dry, however I've always seen SF as being normal stories, ie love story, advernture story etc but the setting was limitless.

So with that BE was a comedy novel with a science fiction setting as opposed to something like Flashman that was comedy with a historical setting, so hubbard stuff not that much different in that context, so how then am I beyond redemption, just cause the physics aint correct like Asimov?

    ak,
i actually read 3 or 4 volumes of the battlefield series (got them from the library) and they were utter, utter arse. sorry, but i didn;t even find them funny, just crap. haven;t read the other revelation books, considered it but i'd rather re-read somethign i've previously enjoyed.
niven is good at short stories but he's a single concept man so unlessthe concept is huge (like ringworld) the books are a little laborious even then if he milks the idea too much it goes wrong too.
another piss poor excuse for a series of books is the thomas covenant series by steven r donaldson. boring, depressing and ultimately pointless. truly, truly pants.
if you want humor read 'he died with a felafel in his hand' and 'the tasmanian babes fiasco' both by john birmingham. 'tales of house sharing horror' is the by line and it'll have you in stitches. for s/f probably my favorite is either 'to sail beyond the sunset', 'time enough for love' by heinlein or enders game by orson scott card - read the sequels too they are tough but worth it.
    cheers

    julian.

p.s. looks like bub was sol for post 1666

Ju once I started to read mission earth series I had to finish it, just to say I had done it, first half were funnier than last lot, suppose it depends on yer sense of humour, but just wanted to get it done, read most of the Heinlen books when I was a teenager and I've been trying for ages to remember his name, so thanks for that will maybe read them again something I NEVER do, except for the Mote in Gods Eye, read first about 14 years old and trieds it a couple of years ago, it's amazing what nostalgiia does for you as not as good as i remembered, Have to say we really like the revelation stuff, just our taste I suppose, they are one of the few books I have bought as get most from library.
