So Thorsten has broken cover ...

What's wrong with being made in china? Everything is these days and for any company to do otherwise is simply giving themselves a higher cost base for no benefit.

Because in the most general terms, manufacturing QC appears to be better in the aforementioned countries.

I have yet to see a piece of Chinese Hi-Fi built as well as Nagra, DartZeel or Esoteric (not that there's much around to compare, at their very high prices).

I agree about increased cost base, but you are paying for that last ounce of build, finish & QC/testing.

Some people (myself included) would expect that for £4k......

DT

Not China-bashing at all. Japan was the same 30 years ago, now it's products are very highly regarded. I expect Chinese made goods to potentially have that cachet in 20-30 years too.

Well Ts stuff is extremely well made - of the standard and above to be expected for £4k. So this isnt a problem. I doubt anyone will ask where its made.

i'd put my vincents up against most so called 'quality' hi-fi - it certainly showed my nac 82 / hicaps / nap 250 for the bits of bent metal they call cases. the newer naim is chunkier but i'd say the vinnys are on a par with them. they don't thump when you turn them on either.

The NAD Master series is made in china, and has far better build quality than a great many pieces of hifi built elsewhere, including my made-in-denmark NAD S300.

Is all chinese built stuff good quality? No. Can chinese built stuff be good quality? For sure.

Some time ago people regarded "Made in Japan" with similar derision. Now Japan is the benchmark for quality and reliability in cars, hifi, etc.

5 pages worth of self promotion based merely on that link in the hifi show thread.

You've got to hand it to the guy! Still, I doubt we will be discussing this company in months or years to come so I hope he's enjoying it for now.

He's going to need all the help he can get to persuade the high end buying public to part with their hard earned for such products displaying zero pedegree whatsoever.

Has Thorsten posted on this thread S&M? If not then it can hardly be "self promotion".

Pedigree has to start somewhere.

About someone elses products? Not likely.

Dont you have any rowdy teenagers to get grumpy at S&M?

I think this thread has run its course.

No just general insecurity BBV. But I don't think I asked for your opinion. I was talking to Tony - so no need to take your usual umbrage.

Nobody asked for yours either but you gave it and so will I.

You are just taking a last pot shot at a guy that has already left for forum. For the sole reason that he drubbed you utterly in every encounter.

Sour grapes.

The AMR stuff is definitely made in China. I believe some of the company principals live there. Wouldn't make much sense to outsource production to the UK.

I had to laugh at the comment about expecting production at this price level to be in the UK.

Good luck with the project. When you've made a mint on the markup you can put your feet up with a pair of active PMC's. :D

I didn't exactly get on with T but his posts humoured me more than anything and I'm sure I returned that favour in his eyes. His views on loudspeaker design were, lets say, different. What I can see is he's a very bright and talented guy if a little over-opinionated and rigidly steadfast in what he 'believes'. But at least he had his own methods, ideas and theories rather than following the heard like 99% do, I respect that.

I also think he'll take look at this thread and laugh at some of the comments.

Despite our differences in petty matters I really hope he makes a great go of it and sells something he believes in. I've never even met the guy so why in the hell would I wish him ill, especially in something such a business endeavour. Let's face it, I'd give my right arm to have a 24/7 job that involved designing, building and selling loudspeakers despite the complications of a company just starting out.

So I think some of the dissenting voices in this thread need to realise that lifes far too short to try and convince others that your the biggest idiot.

I think you need to step back and realise that we're better off with folks like T around than without.

And doing it without a right arm!
