so the Kestrels then............
Very interesting I think, mine sound nothing like Isaac's well run in pair yet, they have all the symptoms as described, but they still sound rather good
'salright peance do't panic, he meant sound syptoms with regard to your speeks, not the medical bowel oriented problems you are having, go and see your GP, they need cheering up every now and then.
Well, today was an interesting day. All the rooms were booked in the building at work, so we've just spent an afternoon doing listening tests chez moi. The kestrels impressed (yet again ), and heard a few interesting things (although outside of my own kit, I'm not at liberty to say what else was involved). I love my job, where the odd bake-off is considered "work"...
Had a mail from Pat at Meadowlark. The posts are Bennic BG type, cant find anyone in UK that stocks them, any ideas?
Ok, bizarrely enough you might get somewhere if you ask B&W. They use the same posts on the DM600 series.
The currently slighty woolly bass and recessed treble and mid, but I've left them on all day, and will do so for some time. Hopefully they'll open out but there's a lot of hours to go yet
im going to try and hook the dvd up tmr, got repeat on that. Last night me and Mrs P did not enjoy listening, and yet i stick music on when i get home today and sounds good
They do sound good, and I'm sure it will get better. Everyone who's come round has enjoyed listening to them, so they can't be that bad. Sit back, chill out, drink some red wine or Guinness, listen to your favourite tunes and enjoy. I'm sure you will.
Just had a play with positioning, as things have changed a bit since doing my CD transport work... Got a new positioning that gives a wider stage, less mid recession, more thwack and tighter bass, but at the loss of some bass weight. Balance is better I think...
Yes here I would go with Iaasc's thoughts on this, They seems to like wider apart, also make sure your listening postion distance is actualy more than the distance the speakers are apart, this theroy seems to work exceptional well with the Meadowlarks. Try experimenting with different depths for each speaker, and toe in. I thought I had the set up pretty well much spot on, oh how wrong I was I had some unthinkable gains bass coherance & mid range presence, plus a more flowing signiture too Good sound enhancements can be gained from solid brass spikes and coasters, also increasing the thread side on the spikes is very benefical, along with so granite mable plinths, tightens the bass right up and doesn't screw around with the mids like paving slabs. But remember give it a good 2 weeks soild running before making any final postioning attempts.
with no spikes as yet, im leaving any positioning until that is sorted. They are the same distance apart as the dyns were, but further into the room. If i try to get further away from them that the distance between, they would need to be a fair bit closer together. Need a bigger room!
But once you have position then add spikes the presentation will change, and you'll have to move em again, why not use spikes and mark position on floor with masking tape. Save you a lot of time in the long run.
Paul, I'm lucky the stillpoints, aid ease of movement like you won't believe, they just go were you want them too, even silly little postions can be achieved in seconds.
Maybe you could bring some of these if you ever come up Tony am interested to see if they make any difference, and they are so much better looking than ****. Was actually referring to Andy, maybe thats why they don't sound so good, i home demmed a pair of FB1's brought them home on friday night, hooked them up sans spikes although I had connected the plinth, was going out with the boys that night so didn't really get much listening in, and TBH I thought these aren't as good as they seemed in the shop, the next day I tried 'em agian and still not as good as they seemed in shop, attached spikes, and plonked them down in same spot, WOW the difference was something else, hadn't heard such a difference with other speaks, and wondered if the speakers behaving to height differences more due to the T/L port being so low to the floor. Not sure if the same for andy's but I think he should spike 'em up before he mucks about with any more positioning. He may well get a surprise followed by that knowing glow when your new purchase performs way better than you expected. Come on mr P get the spikes out. Humour me.
Paul, I can find a thread to fit, so seems they arent M8 or M6, so im not sure where i can get suitable spikes in the UK. Once sorted ill start playing around. Hopfully more run in then aswell. Oh, and the binding posts Also, just got hold of some free marble today, i need to take to a stone mason to get it cut, i will try that on cones aswell.
